GeneBio Launches Novel Online Platform for Protein Identification Geneva, Switzerland - March 27, 2007 - Geneva Bioinformatics (GeneBio) SA today announced the release of its new Phenyx platform, PhenyxOnline. This online platform complements the existing PhenyxServer platform, as now clients can choose how they would like to utilize Phenyx - employing either the SaaS (software as a service) option, PhenyxOnline, or the more traditional platform, PhenyxServer, that resides at the customer's location. Both options offer the full complement of Phenyx functionalities and services. The launch of PhenyxOnline comes as GeneBio brings numerous innovations to the latest Phenyx release, version 2.3, which is to be demonstrated during the upcoming ABRF conference. GeneBio's Phenyx is a software platform for the identification and characterization of proteins and peptides from mass spectrometry data. Developed by GeneBio in collaboration with the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB) and incorporating a true probabilistic scoring model, Phenyx is specifically designed to meet the concurrent demands of high-throughput MS data analysis and dynamic results assessment. (http://phenyx.vital-it.ch/pwi) PhenyxOnline is the first commercial platform in the proteomics field offered in a SaaS model. It came about in response to the increasing demand from proteomics labs that do not wish to invest in hardware resources or IT skills to employ a proteomics platform. In this vein, there is no need to install, maintain or upgrade; GeneBio's experts keep the platform up-to-date, including the latest versions of the major public protein and nucleotide databases. PhenyxOnline is fully secured and customized for each client, including the ability to search against proprietary databases, making it the perfect platform for those that want to focus on protein identification and not on IT maintenance. In essence, PhenyxOnline allows labs to subscribe annually for that which they specifically need to use, the full software platform itself, while removing the peripheral costs such as software integration and updates, database installation and updates, etc. The genesis of PhenyxOnline can be traced back to GeneBio's public server (which has seen thousands of registrations and submissions since 2004) and several success stories in large cluster environments amongst which are the Goodlett Laboratory at the University of Washington, the ProteoRed Network in Spain (http://www.phenyx-ms.com/news/press.html) and the newly announced Biozentrum of Basel University. PhenyxOnline taps into this proven track record, allowing a wider audience to benefit from GeneBio's experience with cluster and user rights management. PhenyxOnline was made possible thanks to major innovations that GeneBio's team has put into the latest Phenyx 2.3 version, notably the enhanced server functionalities that allow users in a completely secure environment to manage and optimize server usage, and also to assign different rights and privileges to different users who can seamlessly share their jobs and results. Through its advanced Result Comparison functionality, Phenyx 2.3 goes beyond a single search engine tool to a comprehensive identification platform allowing users to import and validate their Mascot, SEQUEST and X!Tandem results while visualizing them in various levels of granularity and easily exporting their comparative results in one-click for quick publication. "We believe PhenyxOnline is a unique platform that fulfils an unmet need for small-to-midsized laboratories and enables them to compete on equal footing with more hardware-intensive offerings," said Nasri Nahas, CEO of GeneBio. "Our customers use the Phenyx platform because it offers unequalled quality, performance and results visualization/interpretation abilities. Version 2.3 will strengthen those even more, while the addition of PhenyxOnline to our line-up now allows us to greatly expand our potential customer base while offering the same cutting-edge technology available in the well-known PhenyxServer platform. A significant number of users have already 'pre-ordered' their subscription to PhenyxOnline prior to today's release; we look forward to having a busy 2007 and further refining the Phenyx package in the months to come." GeneBio will be present at ABRF 2007 in Tampa, FL from March 31st to April 3rd at booth #500 and at ASMS 2007 in Indianapolis, IN from June 3rd to June 6th at booth #90.
