GeneBio Launches Innovative Phenyx Web Interface at HUPO 2005

Geneva, Switzerland - August 29, 2005 - Geneva Bioinformatics (GeneBio) S.A. today announced the latest release of Phenyx, its state-of-the-art protein identification platform. This release incorporates the Phenyx Web Interface (PWI), a new Web-based client used to interact with the Phenyx calculation engine. A number of features have been added or enhanced within the platform to give users a richer experience and more flexible possibilities to perform protein and peptide identification.

Since the launch of Phenyx a year ago, GeneBio has been working closely with renowned scientists in the proteomics field together with partners, customers and users in order to incorporate many valuable suggestions and achieve a more robust platform. In addition to the completion of functionalities already available within its Java interface (the Phenyx Virtual Desktop) and within several HTML reporting and management tools, Phenyx is now directly accessible via a Web browser. The PWI allows - as does the Java interface - users to log in to a Phenyx server, to submit jobs, to visualize identification results in various views, to compare Phenyx and third-party software results in a single table, and to browse and manipulate a job history, along with a host of other functionalities.

The PWI introduces a number of new platform features, several of which include: a Protein Details View displaying an extensive interpretation of a specific protein; Excel and XML reports of complete jobs; and a configurable management console that allows users to define their own amino acid modifications and enzymatic cleavage rules and to generate a variety of specific reports.

The PWI does not require any specific software installation, making it easily accessible from any Web-enabled location. Following the Phenyx client/calculation engine setup, the Web client can access either public servers or locally licensed servers, depending upon the user's preference. Completion of the account registration process allows users to save, recall and resubmit jobs, along with managing their personal settings. Already registered users can take advantage of the PWI with their existing logins and passwords.

"We are extremely pleased with the current evolution of Phenyx," said Nasri Nahas, CEO of GeneBio. "The feedback received from clients and partners is very exciting and shows that we are on the right track. We believe the launch of the PWI will allow a host of new users to experience the power and versatility of the Phenyx platform. Our team has worked hard alongside key figures in the field to create an intuitive and responsive interface while updating platform-wide functionalities and taking advantage of Phenyx's unrivalled scoring algorithm; we are confident that both new and experienced users will be happy with our work."

GeneBio will be present at the HUPO 4th Annual World Congress at booth #207 to demonstrate the PWI and other platform-wide enhancements. Interested parties are encouraged to stop by the booth for more information or to visit

Phenyx was developed by GeneBio in collaboration with the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB) and incorporates the true probabilistic and flexible scoring system OLAV. Phenyx is specifically designed to meet the concurrent demands of high-throughput mass spectrometry data analysis and dynamic high quality results assessment.
