GeneBio Establishes Japanese Branch to Promote Expanding Product Line (In Japanese) Geneva, Switzerland - May 11, 2004 - Geneva Bioinformatics (GeneBio) S.A. today announced the opening of its Tokyo branch in order to provide an active presence for its growing line of products within the Japanese proteomics community. This new branch, headed by Business Manager Dr. Yasuhiro Kuroda, is the next key step in GeneBio's expansion as a multifaceted bioinformatics company. GeneBio currently relies exclusively upon local distributors within Japan. But with the growing success of its current products and the forthcoming launch of new offerings, the need for a more dedicated presence and the ability to customize products for local markets becomes essential. As Japan is regarded throughout the industry as a growing hotbed for proteomics, GeneBio believes a branch there to be an important factor in the future growth of the company. "We currently market the SIB databases Swiss-Prot, PROSITE and SWISS-2DPAGE through a well established distributor; this is an excellent and profitable method of obtaining a foothold in the challenging Japanese market, but now we feel it is time to enhance this presence in order to build closer long-term relationships with Japanese customers and partners," said Nasri Nahas, CEO of GeneBio. "We believe our new Tokyo branch, under the direction of Dr. Kuroda, will pave the way for both our existing and emerging product offerings and help to establish a more visible and personal presence in the growing Japanese market." A highly regarded industry veteran, GeneBio's new Business Manager brings a wealth of knowledge about the Japanese Proteomics and Bioinformatics market as well as a unique understanding of Japanese customers. With extensive contacts throughout the industry, he’ll be in charge of developing partnerships and stewarding GeneBio's Japanese presence. GeneBio will be available at BioExpo Japan from May 19th to the 21st to answer questions about its future place within the Japanese proteomics community. For more information concerning the company's Japanese activities, GeneBio can be reached at the following address: Geneva Bioinformatics (GeneBio) - Japan Branch #301, 2-17-8 Nagata-cho
