Aldente

Aldente is a PMF (Peptide Mass Fingerprint) tool developed by the Proteome Informatics Group at the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB). The free version of Aldente has been available on the ExPASy server since 2002.

One of the strengths of Aldente is to include a mass spectral realignment method in the scoring process. The so called Hough transform as implemented in Aldente is very robust and performs equally well with crowded or poor spectra, allowing also the validation of the presence of a simple mixture of proteins in a spectrum. Last but not least, the close neighbourhood of and synergies with the Swiss-Prot group enable Aldente to automatically search for post-translationally modified peptides as annotated in Swiss-Prot.
