GeneBio and the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics Collaborate on Web-Based Training Portal
Geneva, Switzerland - July 19, 2006 - Geneva Bioinformatics (GeneBio) SA and the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB) today announced a strategic partnership involving GeneBio's e-Proxemis, a Web-based bioinformatics learning portal for proteomics. Under the terms of the agreement, e-Proxemis will become a centralized educational platform for proteomics oriented bioinformatics of the SIB on the renowned ExPASy server, thus offering to the scientific community a diverse array of tailored learning from a single location. This alliance is the latest in a string of collaborations between GeneBio and the SIB, which also includes GeneBio’s Phenyx MS data analysis platform, the Melanie/ImageMaster gel analysis software and the SIB’s renowned proteomics databases Swiss-Prot, PROSITE and SWISS-2DPAGE. e-Proxemis is a bioinformatics learning portal for proteomics that enables life scientists to master available resources essential for conducting proteomics research and becoming a key bioinformatics resource within their company. Users progress via their own personalized workspace through increasingly demanding scenarios and case studies, with access to an impressive number of tutorials on a variety of resource tools and databases. Scientists can test their knowledge throughout the learning process and are consequently directed towards further scenarios, case studies and resources. New coursework is added on a regular basis, ensuring a reservoir of fresh data for future learning sessions. "We realize that life scientists are under pressure to both comprehend and utilize a constantly expanding profusion of bioinformatics tools and resources," said Nasri Nahas, CEO of GeneBio. "The e-Proxemis platform is our response to these scientists. What began as a classroom-based weeklong tutorial became, over time, an online portal composed of the best of available coursework and original material in a format tailored for the tech-savvy researchers of today. When combined with the pedigree of the ExPASy server, we believe e-Proxemis will begin benefiting the global life science community immediately." "GeneBio and the SIB have always had close ties, and this is another example of how we can mingle the academic and professional worlds to achieve a powerful solution," said Prof. Ernest Feytmans, Director of the SIB. " The inclusion of a professional-level learning environment within the already extensive ExPASy environment will make it that much more of a pertinent knowledge resource. The ExPASy server is known worldwide for its access to databases and tools; the addition of e-Proxemis ads yet another facet to this scientific gem." e-Proxemis is available for both individuals interested in enhancing their knowledge of bioinformatics and also for groups or companies who wish to educate internal departments. Access will be free for academics and available via subscription for non-academic personnel. For more information, please visit www.e-proxemis.com.
