Geneva Bioinformatics (GeneBio) S.A. Launches a Novel Version of The 2D Gel Analysis Software, Melanie 4

Geneva, Switzerland - Geneva Bioinformatics (GeneBio) S.A. has announced the release of Melanie 4, the newest version of Melanie 2-D gel analysis software. A flexible and modern software package, Melanie 4 provides researchers with new innovative features adaptable to their needs in 2-D gel analysis.

Prof. Ron Appel, Co-founder and Chairman of the executive board of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB), head of the Proteome Informatics Group and creator of Melanie at the SIB states, "We are very pleased to provide such an advanced and unlimited but customisable 2-D gel analysis software to the research community. 2D-PAGE remains a key technology in the exciting field of proteomics. At the SIB we are very keen on performing high quality applied research in order to provide the community with the appropriate solutions to their protein analysis problems. With the prolonged recognition and experience of the SIB in the bioinformatics and proteomics fields, Melanie 4 will prove to be the next generation software in 2-D gel analysis."

Mr. Nasri Nahas, CEO of GeneBio states: "This is the latest addition to our product portfolio, aimed to raise the information barrier in 2-D gel analysis. We believe Melanie 4 is an integral part of proteomics study and feel that GeneBio has an important part to play in this arena. As the proteomics field grows, GeneBio continues to endeavour in making knowledge more readily available and committing all our development efforts to breaking the information bottleneck."

New Technology Encourages Progression
Take the Next Step

Melanie 4 is the latest generation of the well-known 2-D electrophoresis analysis software package. Developed by the SIB, Melanie is continuously improved and enhanced based on feedback from users and the real-life problems experienced by biologists and proteomics scientists from Prof. Hochstrasser's group at the Geneva University Hospital, as well as specialists from other reputed research institutes.

Melanie 4 is conceived to extract pertinent information from the analysis of 2-D electrophoresis gels, providing an efficient approach to protein profiling and an accurate visual basis for proteome comparisons. The software has an efficient design and innovative functions addressing the needs of both experts and beginners. Melanie can handle large volumes of 2-DE data and its interactive gel analysis steps can easily be automated through the use of customisable scripts, exploitable on any dataset. Powerful data management tools and visualisation aids (dual channel display, 3-D view, intensity profiles) have been integrated, while its open architecture based on XML standard and exports to automated spot pickers allow a seamless integration of Melanie into any laboratory workflow.
