Working Directory

The working directory is the location on your hard drive where you store your personal identification results (jobs). By default, you will be asked to open the demo directory containing a few examples. After practicing with the demo, we highly recommend creating a new working directory for saving your personal identification results in order to prevent mistakes when uninstalling or updating Aldente.

Changing the Current Working Directory

It is possible, at any time, to change the current working directory:

  1. By clicking on the menu : Settings / Set Working Directory
  2. By using the toolbar as in the example above

What is a Job?

A job is one or several peak lists submitted to Aldente with the same submission parameters. Because the theoretical digestion of the proteins from the database is done only once per job, it is highly recommended that you submit several peak lists in the same job in order to speed up the request.

How Aldente Stores Files on the Hard Drive

Each job is stored in a directory and the name of the directory corresponds to the job ID; all the information belonging to this job are stored in this directory. This directory can be safely moved to another working directory or removed from the hard drive. Note that is is possible to remove jobs from the application without using Windows Explorer.

How Aldente Increases the Job ID

The next job id will be in the current working directory, the highest job id +1.

The Job List Window

The Job List

The job list is the left window; it is resizable, hidable and dockable on top, bottom, right or left of the application. All the jobs inside the current working directory are displayed in the list. Jobs are sortable by clicking on the column header of the list.

Displaying the Results

Select one or several jobs in the list to display the associated result window. Keep the "Ctrl" key down to select several jobs. Here, two jobs are selected and their associated result window are displayed.

Managing Jobs

When one job is selected, you can delete, rename or resubmit it. You can use the menu or the toolbar or just right-click on the job to perform these actions.
